Report – Everton 26y/o has played his last game for the club
Luke Garbett will be released by Everton at the end of his current contract this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at League One outfit Ipswich Town, where he has made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and assisting three more.
But his deal at his parent club expires at the end of the season, and it is understood that he will not be handed a new one.
That means that the left-back is likely to have played his last game for the Toffees, who he joined as a youth player in 2009.
It would also free up Garbutt to find a new club for next term, although the report does not shed any light on where his next destination could be.
Is this the right move from Everton?
To be honest, it’s probably not too much of a surprise.
For a 26-year-old to be loaned out from a Premier League club to a League One side, it speaks volumes about how he is perceived by the Toffees.
That’s not to say that Garbutt is a bad player by any means.
So far this season he has averaged 3.47 crosses per game, as well as a dribble success rate just shy of 60%, as per Wyscout.
But really, the message is a clear one – Garbutt has found his level in the third tier, and the prospect of him playing for the Toffees ever again is slim to minimal at best.
In other Everton news, Toffees first teamer will not leave Goodison Park this summer.
