Report – Everton agree personal terms with 22y/o after £30m bid

Everton have agreed personal terms with Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, according to Football Insider

The Toffees are understood to have been working on a potential deal for the 22-year-old for months, and have finally made a breakthrough in securing their first summer signing.

The report suggests that the Blues have offered the Brazilian a lucrative five-year deal, which has been provisionally accepted.

It is understood that Everton have already tabled a £30 million bid for the player which is likely to be accepted by the French club.

Magalhaes only signed a new deal with Lille in February, but given this latest update, it is likely that deal was simply a device to ensure that the Ligue 1 side could command a larger fee for him at the end of the season.

Would Magalhaes be a good signing for the Blues?

There’s always an element of risk involved with bringing in a young defender who hasn’t played in the Premier League before, but in the Brazilian’s case, there is plenty to be hopeful about.

So far this season he has averaged a pass completion rate in excess of 86%, as well as winning 71.1% of his defensive duels, as per Wyscout.

As a point of reference, Yerry Mina has won 68.3% of his defensive duels.

After this latest update, it sounds as if a deal is all but done, and if they can wrap things up sooner rather than later, it could prove to be a fantastic piece of business.
