Report – Everton handed double Italian transfer update
Everton have been handed a double transfer update from Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.
The reliable reporter took to Twitter on Friday night to claim that the Toffees could be set for a busy summer involving Serie A giants Roma.
Schira suggests that Paulo Fonseca’s side are interested in offering Italian youngster Moise Kean a route out of Goodison Park this summer with a loan deal including a potential option-to-buy.
Schira adds that the Blues could look to engineer a deal for Chris Smalling, who is currently on loan in the Italian capital.
It is understood that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have approached parent club Manchester United for information on the defender, and will make a move if Roma decide against sealing a permanent transfer for the 30-year-old.
What should we make of this?
Firstly, if we’re being honest, it’s probably quite easy to discredit a potential move for Chris Smalling.
Football Insider reported yesterday that the Toffees have agreed personal terms with Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of a £30 million, and it’s hard to envisage Ancelotti spending big on two defenders in one window, especially when Smalling will be almost 31 come the beginning of next season.
As for Moise Kean, it’s safe to say that he has had a tricky start to life in England, notching just one goal in 26 appearances this term, but whether we would be willing to let him go is another matter entirely.
Previous manager Marco Silva made it very clear in December that he had no intention of letting the starlet go anywhere, and while Ancelotti represents a different regime for the Blues, it’s hard to see him offloading a player with such obvious potential so soon after arriving on Merseyside.
Hopefully, there is no truth in Schira’s report, and Kean can be given another chance to prove himself.
