Report – £50m price tag slapped on 23y/o mooted Everton target
Reported Everton target Donny van de Beek has been valued at around £50 million by current club Ajax, according to the print edition of Spanish outlet Sport, as cited but Sport Witness.
The Toffees were linked with the 23-year-old midfielder by a piece from French outlet Le10Sport, who claimed that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have made “concrete progress” in their efforts to sign him.
But it is now understood that the Blues would have to pay a substantial amount of money for last season’s Champions League semi-finalist, with his current employers believing the 10-figure fee to represent a “fairly reasonable” price.
The Toffees are not alone in their interest, however.
Sport also reference Real Madrid’s continued eagerness to land the player, as well as an “avalanche of interest” from elsewhere.
The outlet also imply that van de Beek has his heart set on a more ambitious project than the one Ancelotti is building on Merseyside.
Would van de Beek be a good signing?
Absolutely.
The fact that the likes of Real Madrid are eager to snap him up shows just how much quality the Dutchman possesses, as do his own lofty ambitions.
Admittedly, that could prove to be a stumbling block, but if we can overcome them, what a signing he could be.
So far this season, the Dutchman has 14 goals and seven assists from the centre of midfield, as well as averaging 1.8 shots and 1.6 key passes per game, as well as a match rating of 7.27, as per Whoscored.
As a point of reference, Gylfi Sigurdsson has averaged a match rating of just 6.7 per match this term.
It won’t be an easy deal to pull off by any means, but the potential rewards on offer could make this one worth the effort.
