Everton agree deal with C’Ship club, defender set for extension on loan move – report
Everton defender Matthew Pennington will spend the rest of the season on loan at Hull City, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The newspaper have reported their website that the Toffees have come to an agreement with the Yorkshire club to extend the defender’s loan deal at the KCOM Stadium.
Pennington has joined Everton teammate Josh Bowler in extending his loan deal as Grant McCann’s side look to stay in the Championship.
The 25-year-old had forced his way into the Hull side before the enforced COVID-19 break and featured in the 4-0 thrashing against Leeds.
Pennington has only featured nine times in the Championship but stands a good chance of featuring in the final nine fixtures after this agreement was reached.
Reece Burke and Jordy De Wijs have been the most frequently used partnership at the KCOM, and if they are both fit – it could be tricky to earn minutes.
It is hard to envisage Pennington having much of a future at Goodison Park, with loan after loan taking him further from the first-team in Merseyside.
Carlo Ancelotti is most likely looking at different options moving forward. Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate are all options available to him right now and Pennington is clearly nowhere near that level.
Pennington would need to prove himself in a Championship side that is pushing for promotion before even being considered at Everton, and that clearly isn’t happening.
