Everton mainstay hits back at government, shares Zoom calls with member of the FA
Everton defender Michael Keane has hit back at Secretary of Health Matt Hancock for creating public pressure on footballers.
The Toffees mainstay believed that his comments were unnecessary and that the majority of footballers would have helped without that.
Keane confirmed that Everton came to the players with the option to take a deferral, many of which could pick a percentage of what they let up.
Keane also shared that he has been having Zoom calls with former youth coach Paul McGuinness, who now works for the FA.
“I also got back in touch with my old youth team coach Paul McGuinness at Man United and I ended speaking to him four or five times on Zoom,” he told the Mirror.
“He works for the FA now and he really helped me with a few things.
“I thought it was unnecessary what Matt Hancock said about footballers. I think 99 per cent of footballers would have helped anyway without that sort of public pressure.”
Keane is spot on with his comments that most footballers will have taken deferrals without the pressure from Hancock this season.
The defender also having conversations with McGuinness shows his willingness to improve in the back four. Keane confirmed that he was working on his movement, and how he can turn quicker – something that can only benefit the Toffees.
Football returning is on the horizon, and Keane is clearly working on improving drastically with the Merseyside derby up first.
