Report: Goodison Park decision delayed as Everton & Liverpool wait for confirmed venue
A decision on whether or not the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool will be hosted at Goodison Park has been delayed until Friday.
Sky Sports have reported that the relevant documents were not received until late on Friday and Liverpool City Council need more time to review them.
The Safety Advisory Group will review the documents and then decide whether it will be held at Goodison Park or a neutral venue.
Everton are reported to be happy to host the fixture, one in which Liverpool could win the title if other results go their way.
Liverpool’s Mayor Joe Anderson has also given his backing for Goodison Park to host the fixture, despite fears that fans may congregate outside.
He told the Athletic that now that local authorities have had time to ensure safety, there is no reason to switch to a neutral venue.
With Everton happy to host the fixture, along with the Mayor’s acceptance, it is likely that the game will be held at Goodison Park.
Merseyside Police have also confirmed that they are happy to hold the game at Goodison, with them having the staff in place to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
The other game that still hasn’t had a venue confirmed in the Premier League is Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City – meaning the biggest fear is in Merseyside, something that can be proved wrong on the restart weekend.
