Everton youngster nominated for end of season award after successful loan spell
There were some eyebrows raised when Everton allowed Jonjoe Kenny to leave the club to join Schalke on loan for the season.
The Toffees youngster had broken through into the first-team at Goodison Park and was ready to push on in Merseyside.
David Wagner pounced for the 23-year-old, and that has seen him cement his spot in the Bundesliga side recently, with Everton fans able to watch him after their recent return.
It has certainly been a successful spell, with Kenny now being nominated for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award on Tuesday.
Alongside Kenny in being nominated are Erling Haaland, Marcus Thuram, Ismail Jakobs, and Alphonso Davies.
Now, with names such as Haaland and Davies being chosen, it is highly unlikely or near impossible that Kenny will finish top of the pile, but it is certainly great exposure.
Many English fans have resorted to watching the Bundesliga in the past month or so as they wait for the Premier League to return on Wednesday evening.
It is no secret that Schalke have been struggling heavily, and have yet to win since the return. One of few bright sparks during this miserable run has been the form of Kenny.
The 23-year-old has been in 16.21 individual duels per game, winning more than 50% of those, as well as making an impressive 5.13 interceptions per 90 minutes [WyScout].
This exposure will only help Kenny, and he will be ready to hit the ground running when he returns to Goodison next season.
