‘Disgraced and embarrassed’ – Charlie Nicholas predicts scoreline in Everton v Liverpool

Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Everton will pick up a point against Liverpool in a 2-2 draw on Sunday evening in the Merseyside derby.

The Sky Sports pundit spoke about how the Toffees were embarrassed by the Reds’ youngsters in the FA Cup earlier in the year, and how they can’t let that happen again.

It has been described as one of the worst-case scenarios that there will be no fans at Goodison Park, but Everton must adapt to that and quickly.

Nicholas predicted the result in his Sky Sports prediction blog, claiming the Toffees will be raring to go on Sunday.

“You want fans every time in this, but there is no way Everton will be happy with this scenario. They were humiliated by a young Liverpool side in the FA Cup,” he wrote.

“Everton probably should have won that game but they didn’t, and the Evertonians were disgraced and embarrassed.

“Everton will play a cautious and physical game. They both need a game in their system but I am expecting a thrill of a Sunday night match.”

Nicholas is spot on with his brutal assessment though. Everton played Liverpool’s younger side off the pitch in the first half but then crumbled in the second after failing to take the lead, it was unacceptable.

Everton don’t have the pressure on their shoulders of Liverpool having the possibility of winning the title at Goodison, but they must want to try everything to halt their nearest rival’s title charge.

Carlo Ancelotti has already come out to admit that his side will need to be “perfect” in order to win on Sunday, and that must be the ultimate goal, although a 2-2 draw wouldn’t be a shocking result.
