Many Everton fans react as Anthony Gordon makes debut against Liverpool
There were many eyebrows raised by Everton fans when the teams were revealed for the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
Toffees academy prospect Anthony Gordon was given his debut on the right-hand side of midfield with Theo Walcott injured and Bernard on the bench.
Carlo Ancelotti admitted that the youngster deserved it after impressive majorly in the week of training before the clash on Sunday.
It took some time for Gordon to settle into the game, and it’s no surprise given the magnitude of the opposition in the clash.
That was the same story for both teams though, although after settling down, Liverpool really took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Everton had three shots in the first half, and Gordon impressively set up two of those chances, more than any other player on the pitch [Statman Dave].
Many Everton fans have reacted to Gordon on his debut, and it’s fair to share the general response was very mixed.
Some were pleased with the winger, claiming that he looks very promising and has a great future ahead of him at Goodison Park.
On the other hand, there were a group of fans calling for Bernard to be brought on as it was a mistake to start him in a game like this.
