Jamie Carragher delivers bold Everton verdict after goalless draw in Merseyside derby

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Everton deserved to beat Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Sunday in the 0-0 draw.

Liverpool dominated possession at Goodison Park, but the Toffees could have taken all three points after Tom Davies hit the post in the closing stages.

Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with his side and even handed a debut to young winger Anthony Gordon in one of the Premier League’s biggest games.

Carragher claimed that Liverpool dominated the majority of the clash, but Everton had more chances to steal the points than the table-toppers.

“I thought Everton deserved to win,” he told Sky Sports.

“You can talk about Liverpool having the possession, but it’s about what you create and the chances that you make. Everton allowed Liverpool to have possession because they know they can’t take them on in that type of game.

“It was easy for Liverpool to dominate possession, but when you get that much possession in the opposition’s half, it’s about what you can do with it.”

Carragher is spot on with his assessment of the clash, and Everton will count themselves unlucky not to have stolen the points.

The Toffees only kept 29.9% of the ball at Goodison Park, but they did only have two fewer shots on goal according to WhoScored, in a great signal of intent to the rest of the division.

Next up is a great chance for three points as they travel to take on Norwich after the Canaries were swept aside by Southampton, as the Toffees look to finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
