Alan Shearer includes Everton mainstay in Premier League TOTW after 0-0 v Liverpool

Alan Shearer has selected Everton defender Seamus Coleman in his Premier League Team of the Week after the 0-0 draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Toffees returned to action after the lockdown with a solid performance in the Merseyside derby and could have knicked all three points if Tom Davies hadn’t of hit the post towards the end of the game.

Coleman led out a different side to the one that featured against Chelsea before the break, with youngster Anthony Gordon making his full debut.

Shearer included Coleman in his back four alongside Patrick van Aanholt, Gary Cahill and Craig Dawson, with Kasper Schmeichel in between the sticks.

The Premier League shared the Newcastle legend’s Team of the Week on their official Twitter account on Tuesday, with no complaints over Coleman’s inclusion.

There could have been more Everton players in the team should they have won the game, something even Jamie Carragher admitted that they deserved on the balance of the clash.

Coleman will have been given the task by Carlo Ancelotti to make sure that Sadio Mane was quiet at Goodison Park.

The 31-year-old made four tackles, completed two interceptions and made three clearances in the game according to WhoScored – his best-combined total of the entire season.

The Republic of Ireland legend may not have had his best season in a Toffees shirt, but he certainly turned up when he was needed against Liverpool on Sunday.
