Report – Everton plot raid for £25m-rated Weston McKennie
Everton are keen on signing Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie, according to The Telegraph.
The 21-year-old American is highly-rated, with the report suggesting that his potential is expected to be similar to that of Chelsea midfielder and fellow countryman Christian Pulisic.
It is understood that his current employers will look to sell him as they come to terms with the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
A price of around £25 million is being touted, with a number of Schalke players being lined up for potential exits in the coming weeks.
Hertha Berlin are said to be keen on keeping him in Germany, but is also understood that the player himself would favour a move to England, alerting the Toffees to his situation.
The youngster generally plays as a central midfielder, but can also operate in the centre of defence too.
What a piece of business this would be for Everton if they can pull it off.
McKennie has a huge reputation that precedes him, and he has already been capped 19 times by the USA.
This season he has won a higher percentage of duels per game, as per Wyscout, as well as having a higher shot accuracy rate and making more successful actions.
At 21, he is still has boundless potential, and the fact that he is eager to prove himself in the Premier League is a really good sign.
His performances for Schalke this season have proven that he is more than capable of doing that, and if he could be brought in for around £25 million, that could prove to be a real coup further down the line.
