Report – Fenerbahce set to hold talks to sign Everton striker Tosun

Fenerbahce sporting directer Emre Belezoğlu is set to hold talks with Everton tomorrow over the signing of Cenk Tosun, according to Turkish outlet Fotospor.

The striker is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury, and isn’t expected to be fit for action until later this year.

But Belezoglu, who played alongside the hitman for the Turkish national team, is understood to be keen on taking him back to his home country.

Tosun has struggled to make a consistent impact at Goodison Park since signing from Besiktas in 2018, and has just 10 goals in 51 outings for the Toffees.

But it is understood that a Zoom meeting is scheduled for Thursday, with Fenerbahce eager to convince Julian Brands to let him go.

For his part, the 29-year-old is said to favour a move that would allow him to remain in one of Europe’s top league next season.

Selling Tosun feels like a no-brainer, if we’re being completely frank.

The 29-year-old had already been sent out on loan to Crystal Palace last season, and it’s incredibly difficult for a player of that age to come back to a club and reassert himself as a genuine first team option.

Of course, his injury will have done little to help his cause in that respect, and it has felt as if the writing was on the wall for Tosun for some time now.

If there is a genuine offer on the table, you could completely understand if the Blues decide to take it.

The only issue we can foresee is if Tosun digs his heels in and refuses a move back to Turkey.

Again, if his ambitions lie elsewhere then that’s fair enough, but hopefully his association with Belezoglu from his international days will help to smooth this one over.
