Alan Shearer includes rarely-seen Everton ace in Premier League TOTW

Alan Shearer has included rarely-seen Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in his Premier League Team of the Week after the 1-0 win against Sheffield United.

The former Carlisle United defender only joined the Toffees in January but has already signed two contracts at Goodison Park.

Branthwaite made his debut at Brammall Lane and helped his side keep a clean sheet while picking up three points against the impressive Blades.

Shearer picked the 18-year-old after his first start, only managing two appearances off the bench beforehand.

The Premier League shared Shearer’s Team of the Week on their official Twitter account on Thursday, with Branthwaite alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Hugo Lloris.

Branthwaite was given the vote of confidence from Carlo Ancelotti in South Yorkshire, and he was repaid by the youngster picking up the Man of the Match award too.

Everton can no longer finish in the top half of the Premier League, but the emergence of youngsters such as Anthony Gordon and Branthwaite are real positives to take into next season.

Branthwaite is fully deserving off his spot in this Team of the Week too. The young defender won three of his aerial battles, completed two tackles and five clearances according to WhoScored.

They are phenomenal numbers and show that he is right at home in the Premier League and will most likely keep his spot against Bournemouth in the final game of the season.
