Sky Sports: Chelsea join race for defender, expected to beat £18m bid from Everton
It has been made no secret that Everton are interested in Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon this summer.
Sky Sports have reported that the Toffees have already lodged an £18million offer for the Spanish full-back, who spent last season on loan at Sevilla.
It was suggested that Carlo Ancelotti is keen to replace Leighton Baines with a player who can add stiff competition for the impressive Lucas Digne.
It won’t all be plain sailing for the Toffees though, with a fresh report from Sky Sports claiming that Chelsea have now joined the race.
The report claims that the Blues are set to outbid Everton for the defender, who was voted La Liga’s best left-back last season ahead of the likes of Marcelo and Jordi Alba.
Madrid are said to be massive fans of Reguilon, but they have a number of options in that department after also signing Ferland Mendy recently.
It would add severe competition at left-back though, with Everton potentially welcoming another world-class defender alongside Digne.
The Frenchman has impressed once again this season, with only Richarlison earning a higher WhoScored match average rating.
The 27-year-old delivered seven assists but was also solid in defence – completing 2.1 tackles per game.
Ancelotti could be giving himself a massive headache with this one and could be better bringing in a younger option who could learn from Digne for a couple of seasons before making his breakthrough.
