Report shares chances of Everton selling midfield mainstay after trio of signings
Everton are on the verge of completing a triple midfield signing this week.
Carlo Ancelotti is expected to welcome Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez to Goodison Park as he prepares for his first-full Premier League campaign in charge.
With three set to come in, surely some may have to leave Merseyside with only one week to go until the opener.
Looking at last season’s midfield – Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andre Gomes and Tom Davies all struggled to make a statement to Ancelotti.
Sigurdsson especially struggled and has pulled out of the Iceland national squad this weekend to concentrate on the Premier League instead.
The Toffees’ record signing has been linked with a move to the MLS with DC United, although that has been classed as unlikely by the Liverpool Echo.
The report claims that DC United are in “cost-cutting” mode and are not likely to launch a move for the playmaker.
The 30-year-old still made 35 appearances in the Premier League last season, with 28 of those starts under Ancelotti.
Sigurdsson only scored twice and delivered only three assists – one of his worst seasons since making the move from Swansea back in 2017.
Ancelotti will be wanting the Icelandic playmaker to revisit his form from the 18/19 campaign next season, where he was involved in 19 goals.
Seeing three other midfielders should only motivate Sigurdsson, and if it doesn’t, we can expect the talk of an exit to resurface next summer.
