‘Not convinced’ – Stan Collymore questions 29-year-old as Everton close on new signing
Everton are closing in on another two signings after completing the arrival of Allan this week at Goodison Park.
Sky Sports have reported that deals to sign James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure could be completed in the next 24 hours.
Stan Collymore has questioned the addition of Rodriguez in Merseyside, claiming he isn’t convinced by the South American.
Collymore claimed that he does like the overall business of Marcel Brands, admitting that the Toffees have been screaming for experience.
“Not convinced with James,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Reminds me of Coutinho, a highlights player. I like the general thinking though. Two 29-year-olds and a 27-year-old, all experienced, all still have something to offer. Always thought Toffees were light in depth so this addresses that.”
Rodriguez has endured a poor time in recent years at the Bernabeu and will need to improve dramatically to prove himself in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old only made eight appearances under Zinedine Zidane last season, only scoring once and claiming one assist for the title-winners.
Ancelotti will be looking to recapture the form of the South American from when they together at Real Madrid in 2014/15 – Rodriguez scoring 13 goals and delivering the same number of assists, unbelievable numbers.
Bernard was the Toffees’ highest-scoring midfielder last season with only three goals, with only Theo Walcott and Gylfi Sigurdsson hitting more than one.
That is nowhere good enough, and if the Toffees want to rise the Premier League table, they need to stop relying on both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.
