Sky Sports: Everton make enquiry for defender, club want more than £25m
Everton have made an approach to sign Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey, according to Sky Sports.
It is reported on their website that the Toffees are looking to add a defender after their transfer blitz in midfield at Goodison Park.
Carlo Ancelotti is said to be initially interested in a loan move for the 22-year-old, with funds not readily available to Marcel Brands at this moment.
That may not be enough though.
Norwich are set to want a substantial offer in order to tempt their hand, with £25million being quoted as the price they would like.
Everton are unlikely to pursue a deal for Godfrey if the Canaries aren’t willing to accept a loan-to-buy deal, which doesn’t seem to be possible at this moment in time.
Godfrey has started the season in the Championship with Norwich, featuring in their opening games for Daniel Farke.
The other options don’t appear to moving forward either.
Everton were linked with a loan switch for Fikayo Tomori after his chances have been made limited at Chelsea this season.
Frank Lampard is said to want even more cover, meaning that talks between the two clubs have progressed nowhere and are said to be nearly dead in the water.
Godfrey makes an interesting proposition, but with just an interest in a loan move, it appears highly unlikely at this stage.
