Bernard’s agent speaks out about Everton exit speculation on deadline day

Everton winger Bernard was not allowed to leave Goodison Park in the summer transfer window, but his agent thinks he will move in January.

According to the Brazilian’s agent, he tried to convince the Toffees to let Bernard leave in the summer window, but following the October 5 deadline, he remains at Goodison Park.

The Liverpool Echo reported that Roma were interested in bringing the 28-year-old to Italy, but Everton were keen for him to stay. Bernard’s agent, however, has made it clear that the winger wanted to leave.

Adriano Spadoto told LaRoma24: “We tried to convince Everton to let him go, but the English club did not agree. Not even on loan.”

Asked if he thought the Bernard would be allowed to leave in January, Spadoto said: “I think so, the player could be sold outright for around €7million (£6.3million).”

Bernard joined Everton in 2018, arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk on a four-year deal. He has made 68 competitive appearances for the Toffees since his arrival, scoring six goals.

The winger has only made two appearances this season, starting in two of Everton’s Carabao Cup games against Salford City and Fleetwood Town. In the game against Fleetwood, he scored an excellent volleyed finish and also registered an assist.

He is yet to play any Premier League minutes this season and may find his opportunities limited at Goodison Park following the form of Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred front three. It is unlikely that the Brazilian will break into the starting eleven ahead of James Rodriguez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison.

This means Bernard will probably be limited to just cup appearances this season, although he may see an increase in playing time following Theo Walcott’s move to Southampton. Following Walcott’s move, Bernard would probably be the first in line to replace any of Everton’s starting attackers, should they need resting or pick up injuries.
