Everton ace Calvert-Lewin wins PL award after outstanding start to season

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has won the Premier League player of the month award for September, following his incredible start to the season.

His tally of five goals in three matches in September saw Calvert-Lewin beat off competition from players such as Patrick Bamford and Everton teammate James Rodriguez, who have also had excellent starts to the campaign.

But the Everton striker was given the award, which is decided by public vote, showing that he clearly has admirers outside of Merseyside.

Calvert-Lewin is the first Everton player to win the Premier League player of the month award since Romelu Lukaku won it in March 2017, and is the first Englishman to win it while playing for the Toffees since Phil Jagielka in February 2009.

This tops off a brilliant week for the Everton forward, who made his England debut on Thursday night against Wales. He scored after just 26 minutes to get his international career off to a flying start, turning an excellent Jack Grealish cross into the Wales net.

Calvert-Lewin’s form has been the catalyst for a stunning start for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who find themselves top of the Premier League after four games. The England forward has scored six in those four games and his goals have helped his side to maintain a 100% win rate in the Premier League this season.

He has also scored a hattrick against West Ham in the Carabao Cup, his second three-goal haul of the season after netting three times against West Brom. As it stands the only side who have stopped him scoring this season are Fleetwood Town.
