Bernard rejects Everton exit to join Saudi club – report
Everton forward Bernard has turned down a move to Saudi Arabia with the player reportedly wanting to stay at Goodison Park to fight for his place, according to Goal Brazil.
It is reported that Saudi side Al-Hilal want to sign the 28-year-old Brazilian but he is not searching for a move away from Everton.
Goal report that the Arabian club tabled an offer on Sunday but it was “refused by the player”.
The Toffees seem happy to part ways with Bernard as he has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park. He has only made two appearances for Everton this season, both in the Carabao Cup against Fleetwood Town and Salford City.
The Brazilian scored against Fleetwood but is yet to feature in the Premier League this season for Carlo Ancelotti’s side who are flying high at the top of the league.
This story bears a striking similarity to a story that was reported in the last few weeks, with Gylfi Sigurdsson also linked to Al-Hilal. In this instance, Everton were also happy to sell and the player wanted to stay and fight for their place.
Both players have struggled for game time this season and that doesn’t look likely to change in the near future, with Ancelotti likely to stick with the attack that has fired his side to the top of the Premier League.
Everton are still unbeaten this season after drawing with Liverpool this weekend but the 100% winning record is gone. The Toffees will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Southampton in their next league outing.
But following the form of players like James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure it is hard to see where either Bernard or Sigurdsson fit into Ancelotti’s side in the league this season.
