‘Has to improve’ but Tosun handed Everton lifeline by Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelotti has said that Cenk Tosun is now part of his Everton squad despite recent reports suggesting that the Toffees were trying to offload the 29-year-old.
Tosun made his return to the Everton first team on Sunday, replacing debutant Niels Nkounkou with 20 minutes to go as Ancelotti’s side trailed 1-0.
The Turkish international couldn’t help his side recover as they eventually lost 2-1, but after the game, Ancelotti spoke to Everton’s website and said that his side ‘need’ Tosun.
He said, “We need Cenk for some games, he’s a good striker in the box and very efficient. It’s good to have him back, but he has to improve his condition”.
After reports during the summer transfer window that Everton were trying to get rid of Tosun, he now looks set to stay.
This could be due to the fact that the Toffees have very little back-up for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and if he gets injured then there are few in the squad who could replace him.
Moise Kean was sent out on loan to PSG in the late stages of the transfer window after his disappointing first season at Goodison Park.
Richarlison could be an option to start in the striker position if Calvert-Lewin was ever absent but the Brazilian looks to be prefered in a wider role by Ancelotti this season.
Tosun’s Everton career seemed over after he was sent on loan to Crystal Palace last season but he’s back at Goodison Park and he has a point to prove. Hopefully, Tosun can grab a goal in the near future and help to end his sides three game winless run in the Premier League.
