Everton confident of welcoming back Rodriguez for Man Utd game – report
Everton are confident that James Rodriguez will be fit to face Manchester United this weekend according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Colombian missed last weekend’s trip to Newcastle as his new side lost their second successive league game.
But ahead of this weekend’s game against the Red Devils, the club are confident their marquee summer signing will be fit to play.
The Liverpool Echo report that Carlo Ancelotti has yet to go into details over Rodriguez’s injury but the club are still classing it as the ‘haematoma problem he sustained against Liverpool’.
Despite the mystery around the injury, Ancelotti remains ‘confident’ of the 29-year-old’s chances of playing against Manchester United and the Italian claims he is making ‘good progress’.
Everton looked a shadow of the side they had been in the early stages of this season when the succumbed to a second successive league defeat against Newcastle last weekend.
Rodriguez was clearly a huge miss for the Toffees as the usual free-flowing attacking moves were nowhere to be seen. Richarlison’s absence also contributed to the poor attacking attempts on Sunday.
The Colombian has been one of the best summer signings in the Premier League this season and he has started his Goodison career with a bang after notching three goals and three assists in his first six games in the English top flight.
Toffees fans will be hoping that he is available to face a Manchester United side that are yet to win a home game this season. The Red Devils have been deadly on the road this season though, notching up a 4-1 win against Newcastle and 2-1 win against PSG in the Champions League.
In other Everton news, Andre Gomes could miss this weekend’s game with an injury of his own.
