Solskjaer slams timing of Man United clash v Everton

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit out at the Premier League after they denied his request to move Saturday’s game against Everton to Sunday.

The Toffees welcome United to Goodison Park on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways after losing two consecutive league games to Southampton and Newcastle.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Solskjaer claimed his side had ‘no help’ as they tried to push back Saturday’s game by 24 hours.

He said: “12:30pm on a Saturday doesn’t help us but that’s what the Champions League gives to you.

“It gives you a challenge because you want to be in this competition playing in midweek and we’ve just got to take it as it comes. We asked for a Sunday game but there was absolutely no help to get that.”

On one hand, you can see where the United boss is coming from. His side will be completing a 3,300 mile round trip as the travel to Turkey to face Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday before a quick turnaround as they face Everton at 12:30 on Saturday.

But he is the manager of Manchester United and he has known all summer that he will have to fight in both the Premier League and the Champions League, it is no one’s fault but his own that he doesn’t have the squad to fight on two fronts.

This development could work in Everton’s favour. Solskjaer could be forced to name a weak or tired team for the game at Goodison Park and it could present the perfect opportunity for the Toffees to regain their winning touch and restore some of the confidence that has gone missing from the early days of this season.

Whatever happens on Saturday both sides need a win, meaning it could be a heated fixture as both teams look to put recent poor league form behind them.

In other Everton news, Andre Gomes could be ruled out of the game against United after picking up an injury in the Newcastle game.
