Merson suggests Everton may face a managerless Man Utd this weekend

Paul Merson has suggested that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may not be in the dugout when Everton welcome his side to Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 by Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night in the Champions League as pressure starts to build around the United boss.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Arsenal man has suggested that, following Wednesday’s poor display, the Norwegian may not be in the dugout at Goodison Park this weekend.

He said, “I think it would probably be Solskjaer’s, if he gets to Saturday, his biggest game in management. If he gets to Saturday”.

Despite some good results this season, United are yet to win at Old Trafford in the league and have suffered heavy defeats at the hands of Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

Everton fans will no doubt be relishing the chance to get one over on a poor United side this weekend as the Toffees look to get back to winning ways following two successive league defeats.

Everton

In what will come as a huge boost to Toffees fans, Carlo Ancelotti has hinted at the return of James Rodriguez for this weekend’s fixture which should help to give Everton the attacking impetus they couldn’t find at St James’ Park last weekend.

There is no doubt that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be looking to exploit a poor Man United defence that conceded an embarrassingly poor goal on Wednesday with the United defenders leaving 35-year-old Demba Ba free on the halfway line to run unchallenged at Dean Henderson and slot the ball past the young goalkeeper.

It was the kind of goal you see scored in the dying embers of a crucial game but it occurred just 11 minutes into the match, showing United’s defensive frailties. Saturday presents a great opportunity for the Toffees to get back to winning ways and claim the scalp of an old rival.

In other Everton news, Andre Gomes could miss this weekend’s game with a ‘little problem’.
