Gordon to stay with Everton despite lack of first-team minutes – report

Anthony Gordon will not be allowed to leave Everton on loan in January according to a report in the Liverpool Echo.

The 19-year-old is undoubtedly one of Everton’s most promising prospects but his first-team chances have been limited this season.

But, despite his first-team appearances being restricted this season, the Toffees won’t be letting him go out on loan in January.

The Liverpool Echo report that Everton would ‘rebuff any advances’ for Gordon if they were to come in during the January transfer window.

Gordon has only made one Premier League appearance this season, coming on in the second half for his side’s 2-0 defeat against Southampton.

It was thought that the winger may be given a run in the first team following an injury to James Rodriguez and the suspension of Richarlison.

However, Alex Iwobi and Bernard have been given chances instead which must have come as a blow to the 19-year-old as he had impressed on his outings in the Carabao Cup.

Gordon registered three assists in his two outings in the Carabao Cup this season, two against Salford City and one against Fleetwood.

Of course, he wasn’t playing against Premier League teams but if being picked to play in the domestic cups is a chance for Gordon to show what he can do, he showed it in those two games.

We’re sure that plenty of Everton fans would’ve been happier to see Gordon replace Rodriguez or Richarlison instead of Iwobi who is widely regarded as a flop.

Everton should be prioritising their youth and it seems they have a real gem in Gordon. If he isn’t going to get first-team minutes this season then sending him out ion loan is the best thing to do for his development.

Hopefully, if he remains at Goodison Park he is given a proper chance to prove himself in the Premier League.
