Coleman to return to Everton to have injury assessed

Seamus Coleman will return to Everton to be assessed after he picked up a fresh injury while on international duty with Ireland.

The 32-year-old only returned from injury for the Toffees’ last match against Manchester United but it seems he has picked up a fresh knock while training with his country.

In a club statement, Everton confirmed that Coleman would return to Finch Farm to be ‘assessed by Everton medical staff’.

The club also confirmed that the Toffees captain has had a scan on his new injury but they did not disclose what kind of injury Coleman has suffered.

This news will come as a blow to Carlo Ancelotti who had just welcomed his captain back after a two-game absence. The Italian will be hoping Coleman isn’t sidelined for too long.

Summer signing Ben Godfrey filled in for Coleman in the 2-0 loss to Southampton while Jonjoe Kenny stepped in for the 2-1 loss to Newcastle.

While the Toffees lost both of those games without Coleman, Ancelotti does have a few options he can utilise in Everton’s coming games if Coleman is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines.

Everton travel to Craven Cottage after the international break and they should be able to beat Fulham with ease, even without their captain.

It is almost a must-win game for Ancelotti after losing three straight games in the league, he isn’t in danger of getting the sack but a loss to Fulham would signal that there is something seriously wrong at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, Anthony Gordon will stay at Goodison Park despite only making one Premier League appearance this season.
