Lucas Digne: Everton want to play in the Champions League

Everton defender Lucas Digne has explained that his side has ambitions to play in the Champions League.

Everton started the season strongly but have hit a rough patch in the league as they have lost their last three games.

Speaking to GOAL, Digne spoke about rectifying the Toffees’ form and trying to bring Champions League football to Goodison Park.

“We had a perfect start, and then we hit some bumps in the road, but we will bounce back now, we have lost some rhythm and momentum, but we were missing players in recent games with injuries and suspensions. We will be back on track soon – for sure,” Digne said.

“To me, our good start was not a surprise. We showed our true level. The club did well in the transfer market, so we are a good group of players.

It is an exciting time to be in Everton right now. We will get back to our best and will be a strong team this season. Everton have ambitions to play in the Champions League, and so do I, because I miss it.”

Digne has had a decent season so far for the Toffees. The Frenchman has started all but one of Everton’s competitive games this season.

He missed the defeat at Newcastle due to picking up a red card against Southampton. The 27-year-old was initially given a three-game ban but it was later reduced to one game meaning he could come back into the side to face Manchester United last time out.

Digne has done well going forward this season bagging himself two league assists as he has shown he is just as capable going forward as he is defending.

He was a key part of Everton’s early-season success and he could be one of the key players for the Toffees as they look to get back to winning ways against Fulham next weekend.

In other Everton news, Seamus Coleman will return to Finch Farm to be assessed after picking up an injury on international duty.
