Tosun: I feel like a new signing for Everton
Everton striker Cenk Tosun is ready to contribute this season after making just eight appearances last year.
The Turkey international went out on loan to Crystal Palace in January, but remained at Goodison Park over the summer.
With Richarlison suspended, Tosun has appeared twice off the bench and is keen to provide a valuable option for Carlo Ancelotti this season.
“It will be a really big opportunity for me,” Tosun told evertonfc.com.
“Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] and Richarlison are doing really well. But they are not robots, they can’t play every game. I feel like a new transfer for Everton.
“All the things I have done wrong, I will not do them again. I am different now. I train and prepare better to help the team more. I have to be fit and, when I get the chance, I have to use that chance, to be there to score and help the team.”
Since arriving at the club in 2018 from Besiktas, Tosun has failed to really impress, scoring just four league goals in the last two and a half seasons.
As the Turkey international hinted, there were perhaps some issues with his attitude in the past, but it seems that he is keen to put them behind him and that can only be a positive for the club.
Everton struggled greatly with Richarlison suspended and were far less dangerous in front of goal, while the weight of their goalscoring very much rests on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Other than Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and James Rodriguez, no Everton player has generated more than 0.10 non-penalty expected goals per 90 minutes (via FBRef), and Ancelotti needs more goalscorers aside from his front three.
As a bench option Tosun can certainly add something to this side, but he needs to now prove it.
