‘He’s one of the key men’ – Exclusive: Campbell backs Brands to sign new Everton deal

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands will remain at the club despite the fact that his current contract will expire in the summer.

Brands joined the Toffees in 2018 and he has been credited with playing a large role in Everton’s recent transfer dealings.

Understandably, many fans want to know if the club will renew his contract before the end of the season and Campbell believes that Brands will sign a new deal due to his involvement in ‘the project’.

Campbell told Goodison News: “I don’t see Marcel Brands going anywhere, I think he’s important for the project moving forward, the fact that his contract is running out, I don’t think it’s going to be an issue with him renewing it unless there’s something I don’t know about.

“I think he’s one of the key men, Carlo Ancelotti seems to get on with him and they’re building something and when you’re building something you don’t take the main builders off your project.

“He’s one of the main guys so I think that will be sorted out before next summer.”

On Sunday, The Sun reported that Brands is a target for Italian side Roma and Manchester United with both clubs very aware that the Dutchman’s contract is expiring in the summer.

This shows how high Brands’ stock is in European football and how much of an asset Everton currently have at their disposal.

The Toffees must tie down Brands on a new deal as a matter of urgency as other clubs begin to circle.

Brands played an integral role in the deals that saw James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan arrive at Goodison Park this summer and he cannot be allowed to move to another club, especially not Man United.

Hopefully, as Campbell said, Brands has bought into the Everton project and in time he will sign a new contract that will allow him to bring more quality players to Goodison Park or indeed Bramley-Moore Dock in the future.
