‘Why Everton brought me here’ – Toffees star makes claim after win v Fulham
Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure said that he will take plenty of confidence from scoring his first Toffees goal against Fulham.
The 3-2 win at Craven Cottage moved Everton sixth in the table and gave them a first win in three four Premier League matches.
Speaking after the game, Doucoure said that the result in West London was more important than the performance.
“It didn’t matter how we played, we needed to come back with three points after a difficult time,” he told evertontv.
“To score three goals in an away game is a very good sign for the future. It felt good to score and it was very important for us. I worked hard in training to score my first goal. I was trying and trying and when you work hard, especially in this team, you get your rewards.
“I worked hard during the international break to come back to my best level. That goal will help me a lot and I can score more goals to help the team. That is why Everton brought me here. This goal and performance will help me a lot to settle even more at this club.”
Doucoure has been a good addition to the Everton midfield since arriving at Goodison Park from Watford over the summer.
Only Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have played more minutes than the Frenchman this season, who has played a slightly less attacking role under Carlo Ancelotti than he did in Hertfordshire.
However, with the Italian shifting to a 3-4-3 formation, he was given more license to roam forward and got on the end of a Lucas Digne cross to make it 3-1.
He rounded out a good performance with three tackles and six interceptions, one completed dribble, 63 completed passes and one key pass (via WhoScored).
Everton fans will be hoping to see more of the same in the coming weeks, especially if they stick with the new system.
