Exclusive: Campbell urges ‘Tremendous’ Everton ace Iwobi to find consistency

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell claims consistency is key for Everton winger Alex Iwobi after he impressed in his side’s 3-2 win over Fulham.

The 24-year-old thrived in a new position as Carlo Ancelotti deployed a 3-4-3 formation that deployed Iwobi as a wing-back.

Campbell was impressed with Iwobi’s performance against Fulham and believes that the winger was ‘more comfortable’ in his new role.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said: “I was very impressed with Iwobi. Everybody knows that he has the talent but I think the key problem for Iwobi is his consistency or lack of consistency.

“I thought he had a tremendous game. He showed great ability, beating people, he’s got great feet. It was a position where he felt more comfortable, you could see that he was more comfortable in that role.

“He was more offensive than we’ve seen him in a long time. I’m not sure if they’re going to be able to use that system against Leeds but at least Evertonians saw Iwobi shine.”

The former Arsenal winger was unlucky to not bag himself an assist at Craven Cottage as he sent numerous quality passes into the Fulham box but Richarlison was unable to turn home one of the more presentable chances.

This could be the jump-start that Iwobi’s Everton career needed and Campbell is right when he says that the 24-year-old needs to show he can perform at that top-level consistently if he is to remain in Ancelotti’s side.

The Toffees face Leeds United this weekend and the Everton boss may not use such an attacking formation against a side that creates chances for fun and will look to pepper Jordan Pickford’s goal from the first minute.

Ancelotti may opt for a more defensive option instead of Iwobi which means he may have to make an impact from the bench if called upon.

We hope he can kick on and start paying back some of the hefty transfer fee that brought him to Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, the stats show that Abdoulaye Doucoure also turned in a quality performance against the Cottagers.
