Report: Lucas Digne suffers injury blow in Everton training, could be out for two months
Everton have been dealt a major blow ahead of their clash against Leeds United this weekend with Lucas Digne suffering an ankle injury in training, according to France Football.
The French news outlet reports Digne, 27, is expected to miss two months of action, ruling him out for the remainder of 2021 and the crucial festive schedule.
France Football reports that “sources close to the player” have told them Digne suffered a “big shock” to one of his ankles at Finch Farm this week and a decision is set to be made on whether the left-back needs to undergo surgery.
There has not been any official word from the club or from Carlo Ancelotti just yet with the Everton manager yet to hold a press conference ahead of the Blues facing Leeds at Goodison Park on Saturday.
But France Football’s report seems detailed enough to suggest that this is in fact true and the Toffees will be without one of their star players for some massive matches over the next two months.
If Digne is not back until the end of January, he will miss games against Chelsea, Leicester, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Wolves.
The Frenchman has been outstanding this season by assisting four goals in his eight Premier League appearances – with three of those setting up strikes for Dominic Calvert-Lewis.
Digne’s absence is not going to be a blow at the back but it’s also going to several impede the side’s ability to score goals through what has been it’s most reliable source so far.
Niels Nkounkou, who started against Newcastle when Digne was suspended, is now likely to come into Ancelotti’s starting line-up at left-back.
The jury is still out on the summer signing from Marseille but we hope that he will seize this opportunity and really step up.
In other Everton news, this Blues wonderkid is wanted by top clubs across Europe.
