View: Several 4/10s as Toffees fail to win, player ratings from Everton v Burnley
Everton drew 1-1 with Burnley on Saturday afternoon as Carlo Ancelotti’s side struggled against a Burnley side sat firmly in the relegation zone.
Burnley opened the scoring after just two minutes as Robbie Brady fired past Jordan Pickford following a mistake from Allan.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin poked home a Richarlison cross just before the break to level things up.
Both sides created chances in the second half but neither could find the opening as the points were shared at Turf Moor.
The result leaves Everton with one win in six league games with Toffees fans wondering where their side’s next three points are coming from.
Here are our Goodison News player ratings from Everton v Burnley.
Jordan Pickford – 7
Hard to criticise Pickford for Brady’s goal and he made an excellent stop from Chris Wood late in the first half as he kept his side in the game. Wasn’t tested too much in the second half but he held strong when needed.
Michael Keane – 4
A bad afternoon for Keane as he struggled with Burnley’s attacks. He was described as a ‘mannequin’ by Martin Keown on BT Sport and it is hard to think of a more fitting description.
Yerry Mina – 4
Mina constantly played the Burnley attackers onside as his torrid personal form continues. If you can’t deal with Wood you aren’t going to have a successful career as a defender.
Ben Godfrey – 7
Switched to left-back after Delph’s injury which showed his versatility and he continued to impress. Little got past Godfrey but he will be frustrated that he was unable to make the most of his 20 or so minutes playing in his preferred position. Man of the match.
Fabian Delph – 6
Delph filled in at left wing-back which is a position he is used to after his time with Manchester City. Just 26 minutes into the game he was withdrawn after picking up what looked like a hamstring injury.
Alex Iwobi – 5
Forced to play as a right-back instead of a wing-back which wasn’t ideal for the winger. On his few forrays forward Iwobi couldn’t produce as his passing was far from accurate. Iwobi is not a defender and Ancelotti needs to find someone else to play right back. Spurred a glorious opportunity to cross to Calvert-Lewin late on which was so frustrating.
Allan – 4
Allan made several errors in the opening ten minutes and one mistake gifted Burnley a goal. He was rattled by Leeds last weekend and he doesn’t look to have recovered. Slight improvement in the second period but frankly it would’ve been hard for Allan to get worse.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6
Tidy going forward but he left a lot to be desired with his defensive work. Played some fantastic forward passes in the second half as he linked with Iwobi. Withdrawn with 10 minutes to go.
Richarlison – 6
Richarlison looked slow again in the early stages and his decision making really let him down as he was shooting when he should pass and vice versa. Great assist for Calvert-Lewin when the opening came.
James Rodriguez – 6
Moments of quality sprinkled over a largely ineffective first-half performance. Improved in the second period and forced a good save from Nick Pope. Rodriguez needs to start games much brighter as he was a wasted shirt in the first 45 minutes.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 8
Had few chances in the first half but was there to stab home when the opportunity finally arose as his incredible goalscoring form continues. Unfortunately, he had few chances in the second half to give his side the win.
Subs
Andre Gomes – 5
Gomes replaced Delph in the first half which signalled a change in system by Ancelotti. He carried the ball well but his passing accuracy let him down as he often gave away possession under little pressure.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – N/A
Cenk Tosun – N/A
