View: Godfrey shines again for Everton in numerous roles v Burnley
Ben Godfrey shined again as Everton drew 1-1 with Burnley with the summer signing playing in several positions at Turf Moor.
The former Norwich defender played at both right-back and left-back after starting the game at Turf Moor as one of three centre backs.
But an injury to Fabian Delph meant that Carlo Ancelotti had to reorganise his backline which saw Godfrey deployed on both flanks.
The stats show that despite playing across the defence, Godfrey excelled wherever he was played.
A glance at his Wyscout heatmap shows just how much work Godfrey did on both flanks as he even chipped in with a few attacks.
Despite being a defender, Godfrey managed to register one progressive run against Burnley and he won 67% of his offensive duels, as per Wyscout.
This shows the versatility that Godfrey possesses as not only can he play in numerous positions, he can play very well in those positions.
Defensively, the 22-year-old won 86% of his aerial duels which was vital against a team like Burnley who look to exploit long balls forward.
Godfrey also made six interceptions and two clearances as he helped his side secure a point even though Everton’s attackers let the side down.
The defender also made 16 recoveries as he won the ball back for his side when other Toffees players had given the ball away.
Godfrey was strong in his passing as he registered an 88% pass completion rate which suggests he didn’t give the ball away as much as some of his teammates.
Overall, 78% of Godfrey’s total actions against Burnley were successful which is an improvement on the 74.8% successful action rate he has been averaging this season.
Godfrey will be frustrated that he isn’t playing regularly in his preferred centre back role but he must be happy with the performances he has produced since his summer move from Carrow Road.
