‘Different tactics needed’ – Murphy questions Ancelotti as Everton fail to win again
Danny Murphy has questioned Carlo Ancelotti’s tactics after his Everton side failed to win again at the weekend against Burnley.
Everton drew 1-1 at Turf Moor which means the Toffees have only picked up one win in their last six Premier League games.
Murphy told TalkSPORT that Ancelotti’s tactics are ‘too adventurous’ and said that the Toffees won’t win a trophy with the Italian at the helm.
He said, “There’s no doubting that Ancelotti is a top manager with everything he’s done. But sometimes top managers can’t walk into a club like Everton and make them competitive for obvious reasons.
“Different type of players, different mentality, different tactics needed, Ancelotti’s trying to play nice football and good quality football. Ancelotti is maybe playing too adventurous for what Everton need.
“I don’t think it’ll end badly but I don’t think it will end with a trophy. They’ll end up where they are. They’ll have a good run of three or four games and then a bad run. Slim chance of a top-six finish.”
There is no doubting that Ancelotti has improved Everton in his short time at the club and this current run of poor form is the first bad spell during the Italian’s tenure.
Burnley only took the lead against Everton because of an uncharacteristic mistake from Allan as he gifted the ball to the Clarets before Robbie Brady beat Jordan Pickford from distance.
According to Sofascore, Everton created four big chances against Burnley and missed three of them, this suggests that the problem wasn’t the tactics but the poor finishing of the Toffees attackers.
Winning trophies is in Ancelotti’s blood, he is one of only three men to win the Champions League three times and he has won top division titles in England, France, Italy and Germany.
To suggest that he won’t win a trophy with Everton after less than a year in the job is ludicrous and we are sure that Ancelotti will have his side firing on all cylinders again in the near future.
