‘Heavily influenced by him’ – Lampard hails Everton boss Ancelotti
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hailed Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the meeting between the two teams on Saturday.
Lampard played under the Italian for two seasons while he was the manager of Chelsea and praised him as a player and a man in his press conference this week.
Everton can get their season back on track with a win at Goodison Park this weekend, cutting the gap between them and the Blues to just two points.
“I was heavily influenced by him as a player and a man,” the Chelsea boss said (via Goal).
“He is right at the top when I speak about the managers I’ve worked with for everything about him, the huge success he has had at a number of clubs. One to one I found him to be a great coach, a great man and I look forward at all times to seeing him and speaking to him.”
Toffees must go for the win
Things have started to go wrong in recent weeks for Everton and after a brilliant start to the season, they have picked up just four points from their last six matches.
The injuries to Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman have undoubtedly played their part, but the inconsistency in the backline and the loss of form from some of their talented attackers have also played a part.
James Rodriguez is now five matches without a goal or an assist, while Richarlison has scored just once in eight league matches this season (via WhoScored).
Chelsea, on the other hand, have the second-best attacking record in the league, with the summer arrivals of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz adding a much-needed boost. Their defence has also been excellent, with only Tottenham Hotspur having conceded fewer goals (via WhoScored).
All in all, Ancelotti needs to find a way to get a better tune out of his side and must come up with a tactical solution in order to secure a win against his former player.
