‘It’s up to the club’ – Exclusive: Campbell delivers verdict on Kean’s Everton future
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes that Everton striker Moise Kean is proving himself as he flourishes while on loan at French side PSG.
Kean joined the French champions in the late stages of the summer transfer window and has hit a fantastic run of form, notching seven goals in 12 appearances for his new side.
Campbell believes that Kean still knows where the goal is and said that his future lies in the hands of the club.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I’m not sure about Kean. Did Everton send him there to sell him or to build his confidence so he can come back?
“He’s proving he knows where the goal is but he’s playing for one of the top teams in Europe, they got to the Champions League final last season. It’s one of those things where it’s up to the club now, if the club wants to cash in on him then I’m sure that they will.
“He’s a good young talent, he’s only a baby. He’s so young and he’s very talented. Sometimes it doesn’t always go your way when you move clubs but he’s proving that he knows where the goal is.”
The decision to loan out the 20-year-old has raised a few eyebrows as Everton aren’t blessed with depth in the striker position and if Dominic Calvert-Lewin picks up an injury the likely replacement would be Cenk Tosun.
Tosun has only played 32 minutes of Premier League football this season and during his limited outings, he has contributed nothing to the Toffees’ cause.
Kean looks to have found his confidence now he has been given a chance but it is worth noting that he is surrounded by quality players such as Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
Though, James Rodriguez and Richarlison are providing plenty of chances for Calvert-Lewin this season with both players registering three assists in the Premier League this term.
If Kean remains at Goodison Park beyond this season he could succeed at the second time of asking with his newfound confidence and with quality players around him.
Toffees fans will be hoping that the Italian is brought back into the fold after showing his worth this season and we think Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands would be wrong to not give Kean a second chance at Everton.
