‘He needs the experience’ – Exclusive: Campbell says Everton need to loan out Gordon

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Anthony Gordon needs to go out on loan to continue his Everton development.

Gordon hasn’t featured for the Toffees first team since October’s loss to Southampton and some fans are wondering why Carlo Ancelotti isn’t selecting him.

Campbell believes that it would be best for everyone at Everton if Gordon was allowed to leave on loan to play regular first-team football.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “He needs first-team football, he needs to go on loan and taste regular football because being at Everton and getting games here and there is one thing.

“Playing regularly is a different mindset. It’s different on the body and he needs the experience of playing in a different league maybe.

“It would be good for him and Everton, priming one of their young stars.”

Gordon starred in the Toffees’ first two Carabao Cup games this season as he picked up three assists in the matches against Salford City and Fleetwood Town.

However, the 19-year-old has only featured once in the Premier League but on his limited outing against Southampton, he didn’t do too much wrong.

The Toffees were 2-0 down when Gordon was introduced and fellow substitute Bernard also failed to impress but he has since been given other chances.

Perhaps Ancelotti doesn’t yet trust Gordon and is planning to loan him out when the January transfer window opens.

A youngster as talented as Gordon cannot be allowed to sit in the reserves when they could be out in the lower leagues gathering vital experience. Hopefully, Gordon does find somewhere to play first-team football for the rest of the season in the near future.

In other Everton news, Sami Khedira has explained that he has been in contact with the Toffees ahead of the January transfer window.
