‘Up for a scrap’ – Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Everton clash v Leicester
Mark Lawrenson believes that Everton will fail to pick up back to back wins when they take on Leicester City on Wednesday.
The BBC Pundit is backing Brendan Rodgers’ side to win 2-0 when the Toffees travel to the King Power Stadium.
While doing his weekly predictions for BBC Sport, Lawrenson claimed that the Foxes’ ‘swagger’ will see them over the line but credited Everton’s recent performance over Chelsea.
He said, “Everton got a much-needed win – and a good one too – against Chelsea. It showed the Toffees do not rely on James Rodriguez, who was out injured, and also that they are up for a scrap when they need to be.
“I fancy Leicester here, though. There is a bit of a swagger about the Foxes at the moment and Jamie Vardy is in the kind of form where he is scoring in pretty much every game he plays.”
Leicester are one of the form sides in the Premier League and recorded an impressive 3-0 win over Brighton on Sunday evening.
Jamie Vardy is sure to be the key man on Wednesday with the Foxes’ talisman scoring two goals in his last two Premier League outings.
The Everton defence will have a tough time keeping Vardy quiet but the Leicester defenders could have an equally tough time keeping the Toffees’ attack at bay.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still the Premier League’s top scorer and he will be itching to get on the scoresheet after failing to find the net against Chelsea.
The game has the potential to be an absolute goal-fest with both clubs showcasing an array of attacking talent while both defences have the potential to be breached.
A win for Everton would be huge after failing to pick up successive league wins since victories against Crystal Palace and Brighton bridged the gap between September and October.
Three points would keep the Toffees in the hunt for a Champions League place as they approach the busiest period of the season.
