‘Credit to Carlo’ – Osman hails Everton boss as Toffees form continues to improve
Leon Osman has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti deserves all the credit after his Everton side found a ‘new way’ to win in recent games.
The Toffees recorded back to back victories against Chelsea and Leicester heading into this weekend and they will be looking to win again against Arsenal on Saturday.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Osman hailed Ancelotti’s new approach and drew comparisons to Everton’s performances last season.
He said, “Credit to Carlo Ancelotti and to Everton that they’ve found a new way of winning those last few games.
“Keeping it tight, finding it hard to breakdown. It’s quite similar to how Everton played at the end of last season before he [Ancelotti] had made those signings.
“Everton had gone to two banks of four and made it hard for the opposition to break them down. But because they lacked energy and dynamic movements they didn’t really offer much at the top end of the pitch. With these additions, I think Everton have looked a lot better.”
Ancelotti elected to use a five-man defence during some games earlier this season but after the system was exposed and exploited by Leeds, the Italian has switched back to a usual back four.
Since this change was made, the Toffees have looked much stronger at the back and this has led to consecutive clean sheets against Chelsea and Leicester.
This is no mean feat considering the attacking talent that both sides possess and the recent results signal a real turnaround at Goodison Park after a torrid run of league form through November.
A win against Arsenal would make it three in three for the Toffees and would leave the club in a very strong position as we approach the new year.
Arsenal aren’t the same beast they used to be and if the Toffees can isolate their key players then a win should be achievable.
