Exclusive: Campbell claims Everton’s Davies has stepped up following Allan setback
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes that Tom Davies has stepped up for Everton in the absence of midfield maestro Allan.
Allan has picked up an injury and Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t revealed how long the Brazilian could be out for which means Toffees fans could be seeing a lot more of Davies in the coming weeks.
Speaking after the win over Arsenal, Campbell believes that Davies has raised his game now that Everton have a very strong midfield.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “He [Davies] did well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
“Any players who come into the first team, especially in the midfield position have to step up. I think Tom Davies did, he played pretty well.
“Though, Arsenal were wasteful at times. But after three wins on the bounce their [Everton’s] confidence is going to be very high.”
Davies did give away a penalty in the game against the Gunners but his all-round performance last weekend was a marked improvement on what the 22-year-old has previously shown this season.
According to Wyscout, Davies registered a 96% pass completion rate against Arsenal and a 100% dribble completion rate.
He also chipped in defensively as he won 100% of his aerial duels and made two clearances as his side came under pressure in the last stages of the game.
With Allan ruled out for an unknown period of time, Davies has a real chance to prove to Ancelotti that he is worth keeping at Goodison Park.
If he produces more quality performances as he did against Arsenal then he can be a real asset for the Toffees now and in the future.
In other Everton news, Neville Southall has hailed Ancelotti for the Blues’ recent improvement.
