‘No brainer’ – Exclusive: Campbell backs decision to offer Digne new Everton deal
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes the decision to offer Lucas Digne a new Everton contract is a ‘no brainer’ following the Frenchman’s excellent form this season.
Last week, Carlo Ancelotti explained that the Toffees would be offering Digne a new deal in the near future in quotes reported by Liverpool Echo reporter Christopher Beesley.
Campbell has claimed that Digne is essential to what the club is trying to achieve and praised the move to offer the Frenchman a new deal.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “No Brainer, without a shadow of a doubt. He’s essential to what Everton are doing.
“He’s made that left-back spot his own and he’s adding assists to his great defensive play. His deliveries into the box have been superb.
“Get him signed up, get him tied down for sure.”
Digne has four assists in eight Premier League appearances this term and his early season form was vital to the Toffees’ impressive start to the campaign.
The 27-year-old is currently sidelined through injury after damaging his ankle ligaments a few weeks ago.
Due to his quality, and lack of other left-backs at the club, Digne is surely one of the first names on Ancelotti’s team sheet when he is fit and available.
The move to offer Digne a new deal will also ease the worries of Toffees fans who may have been concerned after a Daily Mail report claimed that the defender is being watched by Manchester City.
A new deal for a vital player such as Digne comes as an extra boost following the Toffees’ recent good form in the league which sees them comfortably in the top four.
Hopefully, Digne is back soon so he can contribute to his sides hunt for European football.
In other Everton news, Richarlison and James Rodriguez will miss the Toffees’ clash against Manchester City, according to a report.
