View: Permanent Olsen move would be a smart decision from Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the Toffees are interested in signing Robin Olsen on a permanent basis.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Ancelotti claims that the Roma shot-stopper could join permanently after initially impressing on loan.

On his future, Ancelotti: “We are pleased to have him here.

“He is a goalkeeper with experience so I think we are going to talk with him and his agent to find a solution for him to be here permanently. It can be for January or in June.”

The Swede arrived in the summer to provide competition for Jordan Pickford and he has done exactly that.

While he has only made three appearances for the Toffees, he has looked assured throughout and supporters have seen some improvements in Pickford along the way.

With Ancelotti being a manager who likes to rotate his goalkeepers, Pickford will be well aware that in Olsen he has some serious competition for perhaps the first time in his Everton career.

Like Pickford, Olsen’s distributions is going to be a key factor in what makes him a success at Goodison Park.

According to Wyscout, he has completed nearly 96% of his short passes during his time at Everton so far.

Against Newcastle in the Premier League, he also completed 100% of his long passes too.

Everton are also seeing the benefit of having a competitive number two, with Pickford showing some of his best form this season.

According to FBref, Pickford’s shot save percentage (.698%) is the highest it has ever been at Everton this season

He may not be the blockbuster signing that Everton fans might be hoping for in January or the summer, but if he can continue to impress when given the chance, but also benefit Pickford at the same time, that makes him a very valuable addition to the Toffees squad.
