Exclusive: Kevin Campbell claims permanent switch for Olsen is ‘good move’ by Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Everton signing loanee goalkeeper Robin Olsen on a permanent deal would be a good move by the club with the Swede impressing during his loan spell.

Olsen moved to Goodison Park on loan from Roma on deadline day as Carlo Ancelotti wanted more competition for Toffees number one Jordan Pickford.

Ancelotti is quoted by The Daily Mail as recently saying, “He is a goalkeeper with experience so I think we are going to talk with him and his agent to find a solution for him to be here permanently.”

Campbell thinks this is the right approach from Everton with Olsen impressing on his few outings in blue.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “He’s been decent on any chance he’s had to play for the first team.

“He’s good competition for Pickford as well, really good competition. So I think that signing him permanently would be a good move.”

Olsen has made three appearances in all competitions for his new club this season.

His debut came against Newcastle following heavy criticism of Pickford and despite conceding two goals, Olsen had a good game.

The 30-year-old Swede had to wait a while for his next appearance but it was worth the spell on the bench as Olsen kept a clean sheet away at Leicester as Ancelotti’s side surged up the Premier League table.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t follow that great performance up with another in the Carabao Cup as he failed to stop Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial firing the Red Devils into the semi-finals.

Pickford’s form has improved though and whether that is down to Olsen’s arrival is impossible to tell but keeping the Swede around as capable back up looks like a good bit of business from the Toffees.
