We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Former Everton captain Kevin Campbell is sure that the Toffees will dip into the transfer market this month.

The transfer rumour mill is well and truly turning now we are a few days into January and Toffees fans will be watching closely as their club scours the market.

The Toffees have been hit by an injury crisis in the defence this season but Campbell has highlighted another area of the pitch that Carlo Ancelotti may look to improve.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I’m sure Carlo Ancelotti has parts of the team he wants to strengthen.

“I think they’re going to allow Bernard to leave because he’s not getting enough games so that probably brings another spot in the squad for him to recruit somebody.

“I’m sure that midfield at times, whether it’s wide or maybe as a number 10, can be a problem. I’m sure he will go into the transfer market.”

Bernard could leave in January but he has featured for Everton in recent weeks as James Rodriguez struggles to shake off his latest knock.

The Brazilian certainly doesn’t start when the Toffees have a clean bill of health so he may be moved on by Ancelotti as he looks for more back up to take the burden off Richarlison and Rodriguez.

The Toffees have also had a few issues in midfield with an injury to Allan being the latest setback for Everton.

It is the defence though where the Toffees have really struggled this season following injuries to Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne.

This has to be an area that Ancelotti prioritises this month as his side look to continue their charge towards a top-four finish.

In other Everton news, Campbell has given his verdict on Everton’s decision to try and sign Robin Olsen permanently.
