Paul Warne’s post match comments make embarrassing reading for Everton

Rotherham manager Paul Warne doesn’t remember Everton having more than one attempt on goal during Saturday’s FA Cup clash at Goodison Park.

The Toffees eventually won 2-1 against the Millers with an extra-time strike from Abdoulaye Doucoure sparing Everton blushes.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side were poor all afternoon and Warne’s post-match comments make for worrying reading despite Everton’s eventual win.

Warne is quoted by Yorkshire Post as saying, “But apart from their first goal in the first half, I am not too sure if they had another attempt on goal (in 90 minutes).

“I am not trying to be rude, but I don’t remember it. We looked a really composed, well-organised team trying to play for all their family, friends and wonderful town.

“I leave here full of pride, but frustration as well.”

The Toffees were nearly on the wrong end of an FA Cup upset with Rotherham arguably the better side across the 120 minutes.

Many expected an easy win for Everton but Saturday’s game was anything but easy as Ancelotti’s side can consider themselves lucky to be in the hat for the fourth round draw.

Warne’s comments will cause concern as a trend that has occurred this season reared its ugly head once again.

When Everton play well they are irresistible and few teams are able to best a Toffees side in full flow.

But when Everton are bad they are awful. On Saturday they were thoroughly outclassed by a Rotherham side that looks likely to be relegated to League One this season.

Ancelotti needs to find a way to buck this trend of simply not turning up because at some point it will lead to disaster.
