View: One 4/10 despite important win – Everton v Wolves player ratings
A much-changed Everton side won 2-1 against Wolves on Tuesday night as the Toffees got back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Alex Iwobi opened the scoring with a fantastic effort before some lazy defending allowed Wolves to equalise through Ruben Neves.
Michael Keane stole the points late on with a fantastic header as he converted from an excellent Andre Gomes cross.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side did well to score at all considering the Italian didn’t name a striker in the starting 11.
The win comes at a great time for the Toffees following the disappointing performances against West Ham and Rotherham in recent weeks.
There were still some poor performances despite the great result but on the whole, it was a good evening for the Everton players.
Here are the Goodison News player ratings from Everton v Wolves
Jordan Pickford – 7
Pickford made some great saves and could’ve done nothing about Wolves’ equalising goal. His distribution left something to be desired however but on the whole, it was an assured performance from Pickford.
Mason Holgate – 5
Holgate was sloppy in possession and he didn’t quite look his usual self. He gave away some cheap free-kicks as he looked nervous against the Wolves attack. Must do better next time out.
Ben Godfrey – 7
Godfrey was bright in his preferred centre back position and he used his pace well against the quick Wolves attack. Godfrey gets better every week.
Michael Keane – 8
Keane was solid for the most part but he switched off as he allowed Neves to fire home the equaliser. Once again Keane was an aerial colossus and he proved this with an excellent header to give the Toffees a late lead.
Yerry Mina – 5
Mina was also at fault for Wolves’ equaliser as he had a less assured evening than Keane. The Colombian regularly gave the ball away and was very sloppy in possession, not his finest hour.
Lucas Digne – 8
Very impressive once again as Digne looks to be getting back to his best after his time on the sidelines. His crossing was a joy to behold as usual as he caused the Wolves defence plenty of problems.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 4
Doucoure lost his man too easily for Neves’ goal and never truly recovered. Picked up a silly yellow card which rules him out of the next game. A bad evening for Doucoure who contributed very little.
Tom Davies – 5
Hot and cold from Davies. Every time he did something right he ruined it by messing up moments later. Withdrawn with 25 minutes to go after contributing little.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5
Sigurdsson performed averagely in an unfamiliar role but ultimately left a lot to be desired as an out and out attacker. It isn’t Sigurdsson’s fault but he was largely ineffective as a focal point in the team.
Alex Iwobi – 7
Iwobi was terrific in the first half as he started and finished the attacking move that gave him his goal. Once again he offered very little defensively but that can be excused due to the goal.
James Rodriguez – 8
Every minute Rodriguez gets on the pitch he looks a better player. His pass to Digne for Iwobi’s goal was nothing short of sensational. He grafted hard in the second half and was arguably the best player on the pitch.
Subs
Andre Gomes – 8
What an impact from Gomes. He was only on the pitch for a few minutes before he sent in a glorious cross that allowed Keane to head home.
Richarlison – 7
Richarlison had more defensive duties to see to than he probably expected but he performed well as Wolves turned up the pressure.
Seamus Coleman – N/A
