Sheffield Wednesday set for triple injury boost ahead of Everton clash – report
Sheffield Wednesday could receive a significant injury boost ahead of their FA Cup clash against Everton, according to The Star.
The Owls’ squad has been decimated by COVID-19 and they were only able to name four substitutes for their third-round tie against Exeter City.
However, the Championship strugglers could be in much better shape for their trip to Goodison Park with new signings coming in and players returning from illness.
According to The Star, attacker Andre Green could be handed an Owls debut after arriving at Hillsborough on a free transfer.
Josh Windass may also join him in attack as he may have completed his rehabilitation following a recent injury knock.
The Star also claim that Derby County loanee Jack Marriot may make his return which would give Wednesday a definite boost in the attacking area.
This news could cause Carlo Ancelotti a headache considering his side struggled against Rotherham United in the third round of the cup.
The Professor may be keen to start a weakened side with Premier League commitments taking precedent but this may not be possible if Wednesday have their key attackers available.
At the end of the day, even a weak Blues side should have enough to beat a team struggling at the bottom of the second tier.
But after the Rotherham game, we can’t afford to take any chances if we are serious about winning the FA Cup.
These Wednesday players will be wanting to cause an upset but the Owls may play a weakened team themselves as they need to focus on Championship survival.
Having more players available will no doubt be a boost for Wednesday though and Everton should not take their lower league opposition lightly.
Leeds and West Brom’s results in round three suggest that we will need to be at our best to make sure of the win.
